Verbs
Verb : an action or a state of being

Adverbs
An adverb:
Example: Sammy quickly jumped over the fence to escape from the vicious dog.
- modifies a verb, adjective, or adverb
- to describe when, where, why, how, or how often something happens
- to describe the manner, time, place, or degree in which something occurs.

Prepositions
Preposition : connects a noun or pronoun to another word
Examples: for, on, to, from, and at
Prepositional phrase : part of a sentence that describes a noun
Example: Peter played basketball for two hours.
"For" is the preposition.

Conjunctions
Conjunctions : words that join other words together.

- subordinating : show the relationship between two clauses (although, as though, though, until, whereas)
- coordinating : connect two words or phrases (and, but, or, so)
- correlative : work in pairs to join words of equal importance (not only & but, either & or, neither & nor, whether & or)
